 Геометрическое место точек пространства, для которых значения исследуемой функции одинаковы. Это определение можно записать так: {x ? En | F (x) = const}. Такая запись означает, что для некоторых xi, принадлежащих пространству En, соблюдается условие: F(x) — постоянная величина. Различные константы порождают различные Л.у. Для случая функции двух переменных это можно показать на графике в виде карты Л.у. Примерами таких карт могут служить горизонтали на географических картах, а в экономике — кривые безразличия, изокванты и изокосты производственной функции.
